AT 2018: Day 13 (the one with the 10 commandments)

Had a free breakfast at a local church. They pick up hikers from all the hotels and hostels in town and put on a breakfast of pancakes, bacon and coffee. It was pretty awesome, and I only had to listen to a little sermon. When they saw I was from Australia they offered to lightly cook my bacon. Apparently other Aussies in the past had requested this. I told them crunchy bacon was the best kind of bacon and those other Aussies were weirdos.

After that I walked around town. My ankle was still feeling a little tender, but better than yesterday. I was mildly hopeful. I saw more than one Billboard list the ten commandments. I also passed a car with a large wooden sign reading “repent” on the windsheid. North Carolina is a little weird.

I visited the Tartan museum, which was not a friggin museum. It was a shitty Scottish shop. Well played though, I would not have gone in otherwise.

I hit up the outfitters for new stove and water filter (I left my last filter out in the cold at Muskrat shelter, so it was useless now)

I even had a coffee from a cafe that would not have looked out of place in Sydney. It wasn’t too bad, I only threw away 2/3rds of it.

After resupplying at Ingle’s and dollar mart I had chimichangas at the Mexican place across from the motel. It was pretty damn delicious.

Before bed I read the nearest Billboard, just to get a reminder of the ten commandments.

The “repent” sign had been blown over in the wind.
