Days km: 22.7km
Total km: 285.8km
Another day of dull walking, this section is living up to its reputation. Lots and lots of firetrail. Again. I did get to cross the new swing bridge though, which was the first photo worthy thing I’d seen in days. .
After the bridge there is about 20km of mostly firetrail before reaching the overhead conveyer. It was not operating, which I was a little disappointed at, but then it was probably a good thing as it is pretty loud and obnoxious. Apparently it can be heard for miles, and miles when it’s in full swing.
James already had a fire going by the time I arrived. Karen showed up a little later heading northbound, her trail name was K2. She was pretty upbeat and appeared to be enjoying the heck out of the walk. She mentioned how much she enjoyed the “rollercoaster” on the way out of Pemberton. I’d heard a few things about the rollercoaster, it did not sound like a thing one would “enjoy”.
We had a pleasant evening chatting around the fire. At one point we heard a car and then to our surprise a ute with about 6 dogs in the back drove up the track to the shelter. After seeing us the ute probably did a 3 point turn and went back down the track.
Later that night I could hear pigs squealing and grunting in the distance. I hope they put up a good fight.
